I find the book overrated. The early short stories—The Line, The Ballad of Timothy Touchett, Hasta Luego, I Will Survive, The Bootlegger, and The DiDomenico Fragment—are worth three or four stars. However, the novella, Eve in Hollowood, felt like a simplistic detective story suited for my 7-year-old daughter and a sentimental tale fit for a standard TV show. I kept reading, hoping for a twist or some deeper meaning, but by the end, I was completely disappointed.
I’ll need some encouragement to read A Gentleman in Moscow—I’m afraid its high rating might be just as misleading.
